Jonathan Bree: Precode Hollywood (2023)
Interest understandably settled on the presence of the great guitarist Nile Rogers (Chic, Bowie) but this album found Bree – once again with Princess Chelsea in a Bowie-cum-Blondie duet (Miss You) – embracing 80s synth beats, polished gloom and a kind of soulless detachment which brought an Ultravox/New Order frostiness. The mask didn’t slip.
