Durand Jones: Wait Till I Get Over (2023)
Jones goes back to the small town of Hillaryville in Louisiana where he was raised for a soulful journey through time and his own life coming out as a bisexual man. The album delivers rock’n’soul (Lord Have Mercy), gospel (the multi-tracked title song), 70s Stevie Wonder funk (Seeing It Through) and black consciousness messages (Someday We’ll All Be Free). Quite a journey, quite a celebration, quite an album which rejigs familiar styles into something personal.
