Yazoo: Upstairs at Eric’s (1982)
Classic synth-pop which introduced multi-instrumentalist Vince Clarke (formerly of Depeche Mode) and the great singer Alison Moyet (aka Alf) to the world. Short, sharp and slashing synth drum-driven pop which farewelled punk (Goodbye 70s), was a bit pretentious (In My Room hasn’t aged well) but also had surprisingly soulful songs (Only You) amidst the technology. One of the better synth-pop albums of the period, mostly thanks to Moyet who went on to a fine solo career.
