Mazzy Star: He Hangs Brightly (1990)
The impressive debut which introduced the dreamy pop style of Hope Sandoval and Mazzy Star’s understated jangle sound. With just a whisper of the blues evident (Ride It On, the title track) and woozy psychedelia, the album is better as an overall mood piece than in any analysis of its individual songs. Settle in sometime close to midnight, by the end of the six minute-plus title track you’ll get it.
