Dwight Yokam: Brighter Days (2024)
There’s plenty of alt.country and mainstream Nashville country out there, but the style which has really taken off is storytelling gets swept up by country-rockers prepared to pump up the volume and choruses. Dwight Yoakam has done if all and, at 68, was almost a forgotten figure when this double vinyl brought him back on material which tapped the spirit of a 21st century Buddy Holly, Elvis Costello (If Only) and the Byrds (Time Between), brought in Post Malone and showed his mastery of the heartbreaking ballad (Hand Me Down Heart). Great band, excellent album and brighter days indeed.
