One half of Flight of the Conchords offers his second serious pop-rock album after 2022’s Songs Without Jokes. Actually there is humour and sly wit here, but it’s more in the manner of Harry Nilsson, Jimmy Buffett and Randy Newman: you hear it, get it and allow yourself a smile or a quiet laugh. Country, country-soul, backporch folk and more, all safe in his hands.
