Billy Idol: Rebel Yell (1983)
Yes, he was everybody’s idea of a cartoon punk with spiky hair and a silly sneer, but with the previous singles Dancing with Myself (from his debut solo EP Don’t Stop) and White Wedding (from his self-titled follow-up) he proved a master of the memorable pop single. The roll continued with the rocking title track of this album, the dancefloor friendly synth-pop Flesh for Fantasy and the ballad Eyes Without a Face. Tip of the hat to multi-instrumentalist Steve Stevens who was the production star behind the sneering face out front.
