Alan Parsons Project: I Robot (1977)

As engineer for the Beatles, Pink Floyd and McCartney/Wings, Parsons had the right credentials when music got ambitious after Dark Side of the Moon (which he engineered). With songwriter Eric Woolfson, the Project’s second album had themes of space and robots. Parsons had the Abbey Road technology – plus voice processors, electronic keyboards – to pull it off. Unlike long-winded prog acts, the Project had pop-length songs with memorable choruses. Come for the technology but stay for enjoyable songs which even get kinda electro-funky.
