The Smiths: Strangeways Here We Come (1987)

The final album from the band that defined the 1980s for many, and the album they came to consider their best. It appeared after they’d broken up and was recorded at a time of internal turmoil with singer Morrissey increasingly distanced from the others. The sheer diversity of material and guitarist Johnny Marr’s nudging into new areas made for an album with depth and breadth. Well worth going to if you’d always thought of The Smiths as a bit wimpy and Morrissey a whiner.
