On a late career roll with On Sunset (2020) and Fat Pop Volume 1 (2021), the 66-year old Modfather here addresses being a man of his age and how times have changed. But this never sounds like sentimental tripe or his retirement village soundtrack as he delves into horn-driven rock, wah-wah soul and edgy guitar rock. He’s still got a way with a heartbreaking ballad too.
