Mdou Moctar: Funeral for Justice (2024)
Mahamadou Souleymane AKA Mdou Moctar (which is also the band’s name) from Niger is a freedom fighter with an electrifying guitar which could go 10 rounds with Hendrix and an anger which starts with the amps on overdrive. There are a couple of familiar Sahara blues pieces here but mostly this burns with white-hot intensity, the guitars deployed like rocket launchers. You won’t understand a word, but Funeral for Justice is utterly thrilling psychedelicized blues-rock.
