Joni Mitchell: Hejira (1976)
Mitchell’s surprise appearance at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival put the spotlight back on her remarkable body of work, especially in the 70s when she expanded her vision from acoustic folk-pop into jazzy, shapeshifting melodies over a series of album, the terrific Hejira among them. Mysterious songs of travel, relationships, real people (Furry Lewis, Amelia Earhart) woven into personal stories... complex, beautiful, beguiling and not a hit single among the exceptional songs.
