Gracie Abrams: The Secret of Us (2024)
Some will find nothing to like about this 24-year old: she comes from Hollywood money, her 2023 debut was co-written and produced by the National’s Aaron Dessner and she opened for Taylor Swift on one leg of the Era’s tour. She has been anointed and some will dismiss her as manufactured without listening. But the album – albeit sometimes self-pitying contemporary mope-pop – is a believable collection of distinctive songs about finding meaning after a relationship ends. She might have had a head start, but she articulates being romantic wreckage in your mid 20s. Listen without prejudice.
