Gillian Welch and David Rawlings: Woodland (2024)
The royal couple of Americana deliver another understated, honestly created album of originals which import just enough of the past to make them sound timeless. Strong images, moving harmonies, subtle politics (“we’ve broken what we never knew could break”), a tribute to the late Guy Clark and a little bit of countrified Dylan makes for a welcome return after an absence.
Next: Bob Dylan, Nashville Skyline and New Morning; Gillian Welch, Revival; T Bone Burnett, The Other Side
