Paul Weller: Find El Dorado (2025)
Despite a run of excellent recent albums – On Sunset, Big Pop, 66 – the Modfather here gives us an album of covers, but there’s a twist. Aside from the Bee Gees’ I Started a Joke, maybe Richie Haven’s Handouts in the Rain and Bobby Charles’ Small Town Talk, little here will be familiar. So he ventures into country, folk-blues, Irish folk and elsewhere with horns and strings, and presents these songs as if they were originals. Effortless charms abound.
