Beck: Mellow Gold (1994)
The album that introduced slacker-folk (“I’m a loser baby, why don’t you kill me”) and the gifted Beck to the world. There is humour, irony, a hip-hop attitude to pop, rock and folk, and even a bit of cosmic country and psychedelic folk thrown in the blender. And out of this a career was born. Still a remarkable album even though the times around it have changed beyond recognition.
