Grace Jones: Nightclubbing (1981)
The classic Jones album with the broody synth-pop hits Walking in the Rain, Pull Up to the Bumper, dancefloor favourite Demolition Man and her cover of David Bowie/Iggy Pop’s Nightclubbing. The musical career for the statuesque and forbiddingly fierce model Jones was unexpected because she was a limited singer but she knew how to deliver material that suited her superior attitude. And the Jamaican rhythm section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare nailed the mood and the times. Others just as good would come but this is the place to start.
