Mitchell’s move towards jazz from her folk origins was inevitable: her complex guitar tuning, shapeshifting melodies and sprung rhythms were beyond many session players. But jazz musicians know their way around. And Mitchell attracted some of the best: Larry Carlton, Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny . . .

This 61 song compilation – only a couple of previously unreleased songs – pulls together her jazz-influenced work which lead her to jazz composer/ bassist Charles Mingus in his final months. One more for jazz listeners than folkie-Joni people.
