Brittany Howard: What Now (2024)
After her work fronting the soul-rockers Alabama Shakes and an essential solo debut album (Jaime), Howard here delivered yet another jazz and soul-influenced brew with Prince-funk, psychedelic R’n’B, dancefloor pop and much more. There’s upbeat handclap pop and quieter moods to (the smoky Be Still and Samson with a distant, yearning Miles Davis-like trumpet). Seriously good.
