The Raconteurs: Broken Boy Soldiers (2006)

The impressive debut for this short-lived semi-supergroup of the White Stripes’ Jack White, songwriter Brendan Benson and Greenhorns Jack Lawrence and Pat Keeler. Tough-minded rock but with influences from Beatlesque power-pop (Hands), Black Sabbath (Broken Boy Soldier), late 60s garageband psychedelia (Intimate Secretary) and left-field rock with nods to Jack’s former band (Level). A lot of appealing pop buried in these grooves too.
