Jimi Hendrix: First Rays of the New Rising Sun (1997)
In a posthumous catalogue with scores of live albums, studio outtakes and problematic compilations (some where his backing musicians were wiped and replaced by others), this double is among the best. It may not have been what he wanted but this was material he’d spent time recording for an album of that title. Producer Eddie Kramer pulled it together with honest integrity and... it is what it is. It’s Jimi (remastered in 2024) and frankly, that’s enough.
