Dwight Yoakam: Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc, Etc (1986)
With this chart-bothering debut, good looking Yoakam out of Kentucky made honky-tonk hip with a new generation who’d somehow missed the great Joe Ely’s early albums. Like Ely, who toured with the Clash, Yoakam played punk and rock’n’roll venues, taking his hillbilly music with lap steel, fiddle and a backbeat to a young audience ready for stories of barstool drunks, classic country (Ring of Fire with Maria McKee, Heartaches by the Number) and moving on.
