Billy Idol: Rebel Yell (1983)

Widely considered a joke or parody by serious punks, but the sneering Idol – with guitarist Steve Stevens – crafted MTVsupported mainstream rock for this album which sprung to life with the abrasive title track but also delivered the synth-pop ballad Eyes Without a Face and the left-field pop of Flesh for Fantasy. The recently released double vinyl edition adds demos and his throatabusing version of Rose Royce’s soul ballad Love Don’t Live Here Anymore.
