Nico: Desertshore (1970)

The darkly Teutonic, often monotone sound of Nico is an acquired taste but – like Yoko Ono – she’s often rejected by those who don’t actually listen to her. Perhaps songs in soundtracks to films about Vikings – drone-folk and serious – is your in-road to this third solo album after her brief appearance with the Velvet Underground. Over harmonium and with VU’s John Cale in support, she taps almost mythical places located in an alt.folk landscape where it’s constantly misty and damp.
