Grant Green: Idle Moments (1956)

The long career of jazz guitarist Green on Blue Note – who listened to and learned from horn players rather than other guitarists – has many high points. But this with tenor player Joe Henderson, vibes player Bobby Hutcherson and pianist Duke Pearson opens with the first-take 15 minute title track and a languid blues, then embarks on classic, swinging hard bop elevated by Green’s fluid precision and Henderson’s biting tone. One to discover.
